When using a lamp shade made with a fabric liner as opposed to styrene, LED light bulbs are necessary so the bulb does not overheat and pose a fire risk.
LED light bulbs are widely available and are more energy efficient, producing far less ambient heat. LED bulbs often have traditional sockets at the base of the bulb as well.
